After posting the review on Origins Plantidote Serum, I've received many emails requesting info on alternatives. While I enjoy using the Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Serum, I just don't see it as a high-end product worthy of the price. When companies who normally offer reasonably priced products suddenly jump to high-end prices, it makes me wonder. Yes, the ingredients are great and the results are nice, Origins is just not in that market. If I want to pay too much, I'd buy Stella McCartney's CARE and at least be envied!
So, if you love this serum but want a break on the wallet, I've prepared a list of face care products you might want to check out.
Juice Beauty Nutrient Moisturizer, 2 oz, $36
I just don't think I could go on quite enough about this company. They have a wonderful line of face care products that nourish and feed your skin and won't leave your wallet anorexic.
Yes to Carrots C Today or C You in the Morning Moisturizing Day Cream, 1.7 oz, $14.99
It's not a typo, this cream is under $20 bucks and kicks ass! I received samples from this line last week and am blown away. This cream is rich without being heavy and made my skin feel absolutely wonderful. Must check it out and I don't think you'll be sorry. Be aware, this is not an organic product and has some ingredients that some of you may take issue with. In my opinion, the percentage of these other ingredients is not enough to send me over the moon, but make sure you read the ingredient list, and make the choice that best suits your lifestyle.
Tangerine and Calendula Light Night Cream, 2 oz, $32 Kimberly Sayer of London
This cream is a mainstay on my face care list. One, because it actually works and secondly, it's a super great product. After using this for a month, I noticed by dark spots had begun to appear lighter, my skin looked radiant and there's absolutely no dent made in the jar! Even if you used this product twice a day, it would easily last nine months to a year, if not longer. Highly recommended.
REN Rose Complex Moisturizer, 1.7 oz, $45.40 (approximately; 23.50 pounds)
The buzz about REN is that the stuff is just damn good! This is my newest on review product and I am totally blown away. Designed to nourish and smooth the skin, I have to say this is my number one pick for your new face care product... and even coming from the UK it falls short of $65 bucks!

I totally agree with you on your budget alternative pick of Juice Beauty's Nutrient Moisturizer. I have been using it for a few weeks now, and it is amazing!
I think they have really found something with these carrot juices (Yes to Carrots obviously knows it too!).

Hi Andrea! Loving the list, hoppin to someday try them ALL out. But to the point- I notice that Aveeno came out with a new line of products Positively Ageless. I haven't been able to look at the ingredient yet (I defiantly know they are not organic! Jeez tough crowd) But I've seen the site and it looks to me it could be a cheaper alternative to Dr Weil's Plantidote Serum (notice the mushrooms). I signed up for a sample of this and hopeful see if it's any good. I just wanted to let you know! Maybe you can check it out.
PS Is Dr Weil's Serum total organic?
Thanks Andrea for all you do!

Stephanie,
Thanks for the comment and for reading the blog. Yes to Carrots is not an organic company and while I agree that some of the ingredients are not what I would like to see, overall the percentage of these other ingredients is not enough to cause me worry. I often get emails from students/scientists discussing the validity of some of these ingredients, and since I'm not completely convinced of the "dangers," I still recommend this product to those who are interested. But again, if you're looking for an organic product, or one with less chemicals, some of the other choices would be best.

Hi,
I've been enjoying your articles, but I was extremely disappointed when you recommended Yes to Carrots C Today or C You in the Morning Moisturizing Day Cream. Have you read the ingredient list? Totally NOT organic with some terrible ingredients to boot!
