2 cents about New York Times article on beauty blogs
In general, I don't usually find it necessary to comment about articles discussing blogs. But this one kind of tweaked me. Granted, no one is flying me to Timbuktu or Paris, but I have only this to say:
For me, writing this blog is something I love to do. Because I usually end up pissing people off because I write honest reviews, this blog is not a money maker. Truly, what idiot would write the PR company and say, "The product sucks and I'm unsure about what to do." Give me a break! You either write your honest opinion or get a frigging job at the magazines! Those bloggers bother me. I enjoy getting the free stuff, but as any company will tell you, sending me stuff does not beholden me to write a false review. I talk smack about the product, the company, the PR people and anyone else. Let's face it, I'm not being paid and I'm not doing anyone a favor. There are something like 8000 new products a year. Are you kidding me? I'm going to kiss butt just for a free cream?
Anyhoo, just to remind you, if you take the time from your day to read my blog, I thank you. Yes, I get free stuff, but that doesn't entitle anyone to a false review and I don't hold off on reviewing when the stuff is crap. On the contrary, it moves it to the top of my list and allows me to write eloquent prose. But, that's just my 2 cents...

Goodness, that article was frightening -- but I've always wondered. I'm new to the beauty blogging world, so of course the swag hasn't poured in at all. I purchase products I want, for me, and have just been honest and wouldn't do it any differently. Now, I worry about those sites that do though... Keep up your good work though, Andrea!

I totally agree. I've just started getting sent free stuff for review for my blog, and my friends are asking me if I'm going to be honest. Well, DUH. What would be the point of writing a dishonest review? I couldn't live with the consequences either of knowing that people out there are reading my advice and buying a bad product.
I did a video blog the other day which was a 7 minute rant on why I think Proactiv is a terrible product. I've had a few people comment in YouTube especially agreeing with me. It made the video post seem so worth it!
