A beautiful Earth Day!
I am not usually a fan of "days;" a day where we show people we love them, a day when we recognize the contributions of our veterans, a day when we celebrate our freedom. Yet this year, Earth Day actually has some meaning to me, that will last beyond the "day."
Tomorrow will be a day when I look at the changes I have made in trying to lead a cleaner life: eating healthier, whole foods, introducing my kids to delicious fruits and vegetables instead of over-processed, empty foods. I will look at all the products I use and actually smile that I've taken the time to notice and learn about what's in them and think about long-term effects rather than how fabulous I will look. I will laugh at how my skin now violently reacts when I attempt to use a product that isn't mostly natural: yes, that really does happen! I used an eyeliner and eye shadow last month that had such wonderful color but crappy ingredients and my eyelids became puffy and when I checked with the doctor he said I'd had an allergic reaction. I truly AM the organic queen! ha ha
Whatever you do tomorrow, whether you recognize the day for future implications for the earth or just your small part of the earth, remember that any change you make, whether it's drinking more water to flush your system or switching laundry detergents to a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly brand, do it because you truly want to and not because you want to join the green bandwagon. That way, the changes just might stay around for a while!
